Peter Davenport Named England Walking Football Ambassador 

We’re proud to share that former England international Peter Davenport has taken on a new role as England Walking Football Ambassador!

Reflecting on the appointment, Peter said, “I’m honoured to accept the role of Ambassador for England Walking Football.

Walking football has given me a new lease on life. To wear an England shirt at my age (over 60) and still represent my country is a privilege I never take for granted.” 

His passion for the sport and commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles will no doubt inspire players across the country.

Peter Davenport: A Look Back

Former Manchester United and Nottingham Forest striker Peter Davenport has been appointed as England Walking Football's Ambassador. Davenport, who also plays for England's Over 60s walking football team, brings a wealth of experience and passion to his new role. 

Davenport's professional football career spanned over two decades, during which he made significant contributions to several clubs. At Nottingham Forest, he scored 54 goals in 118 league appearances, leading as the club's top scorer in the 1983–84 and 1984–85 seasons. His performance earned him a transfer to Manchester United in 1986, where he finished top scorer in 1986-87. Overall, he netted 26 goals in 82 matches. 

Beyond these clubs, Davenport also played for Middlesbrough, Sunderland, appearing in the 1992 FA Cup Final, before a stint in Scottish football, amassing a total of 497 league appearances and 130 goals throughout his career. On the international stage, he earned a cap for the England national team in 1985, setting up Gary Lineker's first ever England goal. 

Transitioning to walking football, Davenport continues to showcase his dedication to the sport. His involvement with the England Over 60s team highlights his commitment to promoting active lifestyles among older adults. England Walking Football expressed their enthusiasm on social media, stating, "We're honoured to welcome Peter as our newly appointed ambassador. His support and presence meant the world to the players, and we're proud to have such a distinguished figure representing us. 

Walking football, designed for individuals over 50, emphasises health, fitness, and social engagement. Davenport's role as an ambassador is expected to inspire more individuals to participate, leveraging his extensive football background to elevate the sport's profile.
